「DRASTIC RENOVATION」Tamura Residence
The owner used to live in a rental apartment. While he was taking a walk in the north part of Yokohama-city in Kanagawa prefecture of the Kanto district, surrounded by greens, he spotted a 19-year-old public apartment building overlooking the trees in pedestrian paths. He purchased one unit and decided to renovate the apartment to materialize his own ideal image. Through a friend's introduction, he asked interior designer, Tomomichi Natsume to design his residence.
Because of box-frame construction, they basically couldn't change the existing layout plan. However, the owner asked to lay out the tiles of a designer, Agnes Emery from Antwerp, Belgium and the walls were painted colorfully to match the tiles. And thus, an expressive residence was born. Moreover, wooden floors were finished with an antique touch by deliberately making scratches on the floor. A plain sliding door is reminiscent of an old elementary school. On the other hand, the open shelf set in the living room and the kitchen were constructed by the owner with ready-to-assemble furniture. The owner himself sanded the boards and painted with a paint that was pre-ordered by the paint maker. The owners themselves made efforts to create a residence where they can enjoy their lifestyle, and were able to create a comfortable space.
