Special Feature "Living Comfortably with Water".

watersedge01.jpg

Another feature in No.25 is "Water's Edge - Living Comfortably with Water". As we are all aware that "water" gives us who live in urban areas, the feeling of nature and peace just like light, wind and greens. Water surface swinging in breeze and silently streaming water sound surely comfort our mind. This issue introduces ways to incorporate water in lifestyle such as residence incorporating "water" as a symbolic existence, water garden which gives the feeling of nature and a swimming pool which would provide a total mental and physical relaxation.

House A in Meguro-ku, Tokyo(p.124) has a blending of Japanese and Western elements in their three water gardens. The rusty colored stone terrace which can be seen from the dining room, is designed very modern with a black granite stone basin and also specially ordered wooden bench. Black granite basin looks beautiful with or without water. Moreover, wash basin made out of stone is placed in the small space between the outside wall and the building wall. This water garden is facing the kitchen and the dining room and is certainly giving out the Japanese element. Under the bushy maple trees, there is a grass establishment using strawberry geranium and ophiopogon japonicus, imaging forests in Karuizawa. More than 100 kinds of plants are planted in order to make it "low-maintenance". In fact, this residence's dining room can overlook two gardens and in this dining room, there are a table and a chair(p.127) from "PROMEMORIA" which Mr. Romeo Sozzi designed and he was introduced in this issue's THE FACE(p.30). There certainly exists a skilled coordination between Romeo's feminine, modern furniture and Chinese-style chair which the owner previously owned. And a large calligraphy by Hirofumi Ito was displayed above the built-in sofa in the living room. This was brought in by the owner's mother when she had married into the family. This is the owner's true lifestyle to harmonize a fusion between old items and new items. And one can feel the flowing history and time in the originally created space.

"BVLGARI HOTELS & RESORTS MILAN"

bvlgari01.jpg

Affair with Travel in No.25 features the hotel in Milan, "BVLGARI HOTELS & RESORTS MILAN"(P.100). This hotel is located in the private area, going north on the little alley from Manzoni street where La Scala is located. It's such an urban hide-out hotel. The contrast between the 400m2 private green garden which surrounds a building and sharp black and white interior made a vivid impression. Design is done by Antonio Citterio and landscaping is done by Sofie Agatha Ambrose. This garden used to be a vegetable garden for the monastery and now there are a big beech tree and chestnut tree in the background. Also bay tree topiary and oversized umbrellas are placed in the garden. Having breakfast in this garden terrace must be refreshing and taste extra delicious. Menu would be simply fresh fruits, freshly baked breads and organic jelly. It is quite common among Italians that if the weather is good, people dine outside. There are 58 guest rooms and the number of rooms surely shows the urban hide-out scale. However, Spa is built into the hotel and this accentuates the upscale brand "BVLGARI" hotel. The art on the lobby wall changes every 3 months and the arrangement of white hydrangea and driftwood was giving somewhat soft nuance to a sharp foyer space.

No. 25 features Italy. THE FACE is "Romeo Sozzi".

promemoria02.jpg

No. 25 is issued on October 16th. THE FACE of this issue is Mr. Romeo Sozzi who is CEO/Designer of the furniture brand "PROMEMORIA". Its showroom is located on Bagutta street in Milan(p.30). When he was younger, he aspired to becoming an artist painter. An owner/designer, Romeo is a charming person.
In the guest living room of his apartment in Milan, there are a sheer purple curtain and red velvet sofa. It's truly artistic how CD cabinet is placed in the living room and also the coordination of chair with light blue and brown checkered pattern and furniture from "PROMEMORIA" in the study room is remarkable. While inheriting the traditional Italian furniture making, the design which is not too progressive or conservative, is purely beautiful and stunning. And finishing furniture in the bathroom was a round form made out of brown leather with red stitches and it gave a superb impression.
